LL-37 has been studied for immune-cell signaling and local wound healing. A randomized phase IIb trial using a topical formulation for venous leg ulcers did not show a significant healing advantage in the overall study population. A favorable post-hoc finding in larger ulcers needs confirmation. These results do not establish that systemic LL-37 treats infections or boosts immunity.
