In cultures of heart tissue from young and old rats, Cardiogen increased cell proliferation and decreased expression of p53, a protein involved in cell-death regulation. This is a tissue-culture observation, not a demonstration of improved pumping function or survival. The experiment does not establish a treatment for heart disease in humans or animals.
