Preclinical evidence

Experiments in rat muscle found that AICA riboside increased AMPK activity, glucose uptake and fatty-acid oxidation. AMPK helps cells respond to energy demand, which explains interest in this compound as a metabolic research tool. Changes in isolated muscle metabolism do not establish improved athletic performance or weight loss in people.
