In obese rhesus monkeys, adipotide reduced white-fat measures and body weight and improved measures of insulin resistance by targeting blood vessels supplying fat tissue. The same study identified kidney tubular injury and changes in kidney-function markers, making toxicity a central finding. Results in nonhuman primates do not demonstrate safe weight management in humans.
